Day 1
0830 depart for the 125 mile drive to Jerantut. Lunch at the Jerantut
Resthouse. 1330 depart for the 11 mile drive to Kuala Tembling to meet the boat taking us
to Taman Negara. 1400 depart by out-board powered, canopied long-boat for the 37 miles
river journey up the Tembling River for Taman Negarass Headquarters at Kuala
Tahan.
1700 arrive at Kuala Tahan and check in. Dinner at the Taman Negara Resort.
Day 2 & 3
We will spend these * two days in and around Taman Negara exploring the
various ecosystems therein by boat trips and trekking. All meals and accommodation
included.
Day 4
0800 breakfast. 0900 depart Kuala Tahan for return boat-trip to Kuala
Tembling. Upon arrival at Kuala Tembling, transfer to the Jerantut Resthouse for a lunch
stop. 14 depart Jerantut for the return transfer to Kuala Lumpur. 1700 arrive Kuala Lumpur
and TOUR ENDS.
Programme for day 2 & 3
* The scheduling of the actual program for these days can only be
ascertained after our arrival at Kuala Tahan and upon consultation with the authorities
there.
Activities programmed are:
An audio-visual presentation on Taman Negara and its attractions by its
interpretative officer.
The unique experience of a walk in the forest at night during which we
may observe nocturnal animals e.g. moths, spiders, scorpions, owls and the mouse deer
we
will also see nocturnal flowering plants and phosphorescent fungi along the trail.
A boat ride up the picturesque Tahan River for day exploration of a
pristine Malaysian river-system. Opportunities exist for photographic documentation of the
river and its unique life forms, You will have time for fishing,
birdwatching, swimming or
other leisure pursuits.
A trek, through riverine and lowland/hill dipterocarp forest, to
Teresik Hill (1130 ft) for a panoramic view of the interior of Taman Negara, and on
occasions, a glimpse of Peninsular Malaysias highest mountain, Gunung Tahan as a
backdrop.
A night in a Hide (request and if available basis). Most Malaysian
mammals are nocturnal. In order that visitors may get a chance to see some of them, the
Taman Negara authorities have erected hides on stilts (wooden structures with basic
communal sleeping and toilet amenities) overlooking salt-licks where these animals are
known to frequent.
NOTES ON THE ITINERARIES
The 4day/3night itinerary is the recommended standard
program
The 3day/2night itinerary can be hectic and due to limited time, one of
the above listed activities may have to be excluded.
The 5 day/4night itinerary is the most leisurely-paced
program and
will allow the clients to visit, in addition to the above listed activities.
Either.
Telinga Cave (or Ear Cave) A cave carved through a low limestone
outcrop by the Telinga River. It is possible to go all the way through the cave
approximately one hour. The Cave is inhabited by three species of bats, a species of snake
called the Cave Racer, huge forest toads, fishes in the river and other cave living
creatures.
Kuala Terengganu: A ranger post on the Tembling River, up-stream
from Taman Negaras Headquarters. It takes, depending on river conditions, about half
an hour to forty minutes by boat to get there. The journey up involves traveling
through
a series of seven rapids. Upon reaching there, one can trek along the forest trail as far
as the Kumbag Hide.

Accommodation on a twin-sharing basis in the Taman Negara Resort
All meals on a "set-meal" basis as provided by the respective
establishments visited, beginning with lunch on the first day and ending with the same on
the last day.
Transportation by air-conditioned vehicles from a pre-arranged pick-up
point in Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Tembling, and returning to the same in Kuala Lumpur.
Boat transfers Kuala Tembling/Kuala Tahan/v.v. and specified river
excursions within Taman Negara.
Entry permit to Taman Negara, service charges and taxes imposed for
accommodation and restaurants patronised.

Insurance of any kind, optional private excursions, extra boat rides,
extra meals, snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic (bottled and mineral water included)

Footwear: Boots or running shoes, light socks, camp shoes.

Other equipment: Holdall or stash sack with lock, day pack,
water bottle, sun cream, insect repellent, sun glasses, flashlight with spare bulbs and
batteries, lip salve.
