Yogyakarta is a
favorite of many travelers and certainly one of the Indonesia's most
pleasant cities. This is the cultural center of Java and the best place to
see Wayang performances and traditional dance. As Yogyakarta is a major
craft center it is one of the best places to shop in Indonesia. Many artists
reside here, offering very fine batik and modern paintings. The Sultan's
Palace, the water castle of Taman Sari, and interesting markets can all be
seen in a day of sightseeing. Today is free day to wonder and explore this
delightful town (B).
DAY 08:
YOGYAKARTA – BROMO (BROMO PERMAI HOTEL – Standard accommodation)
We travel today
to Mount Bromo, an active volcano that stands at 2,329 meters. It is located
in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The slope of the mountain is
cultivated by the local Tenggerese farmers with the market of vegetables.
The Tenggerese history can be traced back to the peoples of the Majapahit
Kingdom who fled their land following an eruption from Mount Merapi. They
are the only group of Hindus left in Java today. We have an early night in
preparation for the sunrise climb tomorrow (B).
DAY 09:
BROMO – LOVINA BEACH (ANEKA BEACH HOTEL – 3 Star)
The best time
to climb Mt. Bromo is very early morning to reach the summit for dawn. It is
seldom cloudy at this time of day, and the views are spectacular, the
volcanic surrounding surreal. We begin our climb before sun rise and then
return to our Hotel for breakfast before we continue our journey to Bali.
We cross the narrow straight and arrive at Gilimanuk where the northern
route takes us to the fishing village of Lovina and our accommodation for
the next couple days (B).

LOVINA FREE DAY
The day is free
to relax on the beach, a well-earned rest after the early start yesterday!

volcanic. There is a good snorkeling on the reef and a trip out on local
boat can be organized locally for those who are interested (B).

beach of Kuta.
Kuta is Bali's
biggest tourist beach area. It's still the best beach on Bali, especially
since the activities of the hawkers have been restricted, and watching the
spectacular sunset is almost an evening ritual. Kuta has the only surf on
the island, which breaks over sand instead of corals, and the beginner
surfer can wipe out without being cut to pieces on the reefs.. There is a

MORE INFO
ON OVERLAND TRIP
Please note
that Indonesia is a developing country whose infrastructure, values, customs
and standards may differ from what you expect in your homeland. Expect poor
road conditions and be prepared for some inconveniences such as restaurants
and other tourist sites being closed from time to time Sometimes the
transportation may be altered or the itinerary may be changed due to
circumstances beyond our control.
As this is an
overland journey, you can appreciate there are many long drives involved as
we travel from western side of Java right through to the eastern side of
Bali.
The walk to the
rim of Mount Bromo is not a difficult one; however, for those opting no to
participate can relax and simply stay in bed.
Accommodations;
In major centers you stay in centrally-located hotels, on twin-share basis,
with private facilities. Most of these are air-conditioned (except hotel in
Bromo - 2,200 m above sea level) and swimming pool (except hotel in Jakarta
& Bromo).
Indonesia
Climates; Indonesia enjoys a year-round tropical climate distinguished by
monsoon. The temperatures are consistent year round and average between 22
and 29 degrees Celcius. The dry season is from May to September. From
October to March you can experience tropical downpours. Most rains fall from
December through to February.
Indonesia
Cuisine: The staple diet is rice. The food is good and inexpensive. "Satay"
and "gado-gado" are two local dishes which are known internationally.
Bottled water is available right throughout Indonesia and it is suggested
you to drink this instead of tap water.
