EVEREST BASE CAMP |
With eight of the world’s ten
highest peaks, Nepal is loaded with spectacular mountains vistas.
The Everest trek is justifiably famous, not only for its proximity
to the world's highest mountain but also for its friendly Sherpa
people, picturesque villages, great variety of cultures and
traditions, colorful festivals and monasteries. The Sagarmatha
National Park is rich with flora and fauna, but the existence of the
yeti remains a mystery. Amongst the many peaks that surround the
trekker daily are Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Kangtega
and Tawoche.
You can trek to Everest Base Camp and see where it all began back in
1953, or you may prefer something a little more remote such as the
trek to the Gokyo Valley. Gokyo boasts magnificent views of all the
major peaks and is nestled on one of 5 beautiful glacial lakes next
to an enormous glacier.
The route to Everest Base Camp is probably the most famous mountain
trek in the world. Every spring and autumn the trail fills with
awestruck walkers who wind their way through friendly Sherpa
villages. Porters and yaks ferrying equipment seem minute compared
to the towering heights of Ama Dablam, Kangtega and Tawoche. Base
Camp sits astride glacial moraine beneath the unforgiving Khumbu
Icefall, and above it all the mighty Everest.
Highlights: Sherpa culture, phenomenal mountain views,
fantastic Tibetan monasteries, musk deer and Himalayan pheasant, the
trek of a lifetime!

PIKE PEAK |
|
For those wanting a taste of the
Khumbu then the ascent of Pike Peak is an ideal trek. Lying just to
the south of the Everest Trail we pass through authentic Sherpa
villages. From the Linkhu Khola we steadily climb through terraced
fields, then rhododendron and magnolia forest. We now leave villages
behind us and ascend further through hemlock firs to the cheese
factory at Ngaur. The following day the summit of Pike Peak reveals
panoramic views of the Rolwaling Himal, Everest and Makalu.
Highlights: Get to the top of a mountain and catch
the amazing views of the Himalaya, Sherpa lifestyle, and dense
forests.

SALPA PASS |
|
The Salpa Pass trail links the
Khumbu (Everest) region with the unique ecosystem of the Arun
Valley. This trek begins in Tumlingtar and follows the Arun River
until we turn into the Irkhu Khola valley which is renowned for its
natural paper products. This valley takes us to the Salpa Pass and
the holy lake Salpa Pokhari. Friendly villagers and beautiful
waterfalls bring us to the second pass of the trek - the Surkie La.
This area is renowned for its Tungba - a Sherpa alcoholic drink, and
is the entry to the Makalu-Barun National Park. Spectacular views of
Mera Peak, Everest, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and many others in the Khumbu
region are spread before you. We then descend to Lukla to return to
Kathmandu.
Highlight: This
comparatively easy trek offers excellent views of Everest, Makalu
and other peaks, the handmade paper factory and great Tungba!
