Dear Jane,

We have been home for about 36 hours now, so there is no way we have completed our ruminations about our five weeks in Kenya. Whatever our final analysis is the following is certain. The experience was astonishing.
The birds were spectacular and abundant. The reptiles, amphibians, and mammals were an amazing bonus, and could easily have justified the trip on their own. The country was always interesting and often awesome. The three men who squired us through their country were warm, generous, hard-working, generally beautiful guys. The cook, Paul, was fantastic. The driver, Martin, was a sweetheart. Rop, the guide, got me hundreds (>500) of birds, and excellent looks at many of them. I liked these people. I got choked up when they drove off and left us in Watamu. We thoroughly enjoyed the day we spent with Georg, and hope his climbs went well. He definitely was in the right frame of mind. It was a pleasure to meet him. We gave him instructions to tell you how much we appreciated your help putting this adventure together. You have been very good to us. We appreciate your efforts in our behalf.
