Naturally Borneo

Borneo …the third largest island in the world, the only one shared by three countries, a vast nature paradise in the heart of the exotic Orient.

Borneo…a mythical name that evokes tales of elusive jungle dwellers, dashing adventurers, wise Sultans in their sumptuous palaces and dense forests teeming with strange animals and plants found nowhere else.

Borneo …a place that the well travelled wanderer must experience at least once in a lifetime.

Shared by the Indonesian provinces of Kalimantan to the south, the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak and the sovereign Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam to the north, this island twice the size of Germany harbours one of the world's last great expanses of equatorial rainforests, home to rare species such as the famed orang-utans, the odd-looking proboscis monkeys or the majestic hornbill, as well as a treasure trove of bio-diversity with many plants, insects or even mammals yet to be discovered. From the highest mountain in South East Asia, to some of the largest and deepest caves in the world or to one of the best preserved mangrove forests anywhere, among many other wonders, nature lovers will find Borneo irresistible.

But Borneo, especially the more accessible, easier to visit, more prosperous and better developed northern side shared by Malaysia and Brunei , is not only about nature and rainforests. Though obviously one of the main reasons to visit Borneo , where pristine natural habitats are often surprisingly accessible, the ever-present greenery is just one of the island's main attractions.

A kaleidoscope of fascinating ethnic groups, cultures, faiths and traditions, endless miles of un-crowded beaches, islands and coral reefs, challenging golf courses set amidst dramatic backdrops and world class hotel, spa and resort infrastructure, coupled with a genuine sense of hospitality and a well developed tourism industry, all in a safe, healthy and wholesome environment, contribute to make Destination Borneo one of the world's ultimate holiday experiences.
